2018 Demos at Red Star Raceway

H.O.G.® Africa photographer Angelique Dermit joined Gauteng H.O.G.® members and Harley-Davidson® enthusiasts at Red Star Raceway to experience the all-new 2018 Softails, Street Glide and Sportster on the track.

Food and music was organised along with promotional stalls, prizes for friendly competitions held and the main attraction lined up ready to roll out.  All time slots were booked in full for the day although queues were long those without pre-booked tickets were not left disappointed, lap times were good to the extend that there was enough time for everyone to have a turn on each of the motorcycles.  Indemnity forms were signed followed by an inspection that the requested proper riding gear was being worn and a quick breathalyzer test to ensure entrants are riding on the track in full competence and in safety of others.

Still being the authentic custom soul that we are used to with the inception of a modern next generation design and feel of the Harley-Davidson® Softail® models and Milwaukee-Eight® brings an attractive line of Harley-Davidson motorcycle to the fore.

Feedback received from test rides executed on the new line of H-D® motorcycles in comparison with currently owned H-D motorcycles was positive, few insisted they still prefer the older pre re-design of Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

After all the test rides were done at the end of day it seems that there were certainly favourites amongst riders.  There are different strokes for different folks but by popularity the top three motorcycles tested and favoured was the –

  • Fat Bob® for handling and cornering, design and best looking 2 in 1 exhaust system and square head light.
  • Fat Boy® for handling, 240mm rear tyre and exceptional new look in the Bonneville Salt Pearl.
  • Softail Slim® for the redesigned suspension and much smoother ride.
